Bob Dahms: Woodworking Artist
The shapes, the colors, the variations that nature has to offer have always drawn me in, and wood in particular has been particularly appealing. I began working with wood ten years ago and currently work out of my shop in East Coventry. I have found that working with and shaping logs as opposed to working with pre-cut lumber was a better fit for me. The logs in their more natural state are able to help dictate to a certain extent what the finished piece will look like. Once the wood is mounted to the lathe, the shaping process begins. With a general concept of shape in mind, the texture, color, grain and feel of the wood help me proceed toward creating a piece that I feel comfortable with. Hopefully that old log will become something that will bring pleasure to someone else.
